The 2011 All City Championship Meet may go down as having the hottest weather but it was one that ran the smoothest in as along as I can remember!
From the month long preparations, the Friday setup, the running of the meet, to the cleanup; things could not have gone better. This was only possible with the help of many people who dedicated their time to making this a great meet for our swimmers.
Many thanks to the Team Managers for all the dedication and hard work they put in to get their teams through the season and to the All City Championship Meet. I really appreciate your support of the changes we made to the meet entry process this summer, which I think were a big success in reducing errors and missing entries.
Once again we had great volunteers who worked at the meet. It was a bit slow in filling all the positions but by Friday morning we were only down one position for Saturday that was filled by Friday night.
Thanks to Don Smith, our Meet Referee, Peter LaGow, who ran the Meet Operations, and the entire Officials Crew who kept the meet running flawlessly and spent many hours standing on a hot pool deck! Your role is crucial to the success of the meet and your time and efforts are much appreciated.
I am also grateful to Shawn McCray, the CA Aquatics Shed Manager who spent many weeks planning and preparing for the meet. The Shed crew of Shawn, Tim, Matt, Alex, Jeff and Brandon did all the heavy lifting for the day long facility set up which made my job so much less stressful.
This meet was also successful due to the efforts of the the CA Aquatics Office Staff, many other Aquatics Lifeguards, and Lesson Instructors who worked at the meet. Thanks also to John Herdson, the CA Aquatics Director, for your assistance and support. And for the promise of a pedestrian gate in the back to help with traffic flow during the meet!
The Manager of the Phelps Luck pool, Rachel Harbarger and her staff did a great job in making sure the facility was ready and well maintained during the meet.
One of my favorite parts of the meet is seeing the coaches all dressed up and cheering for their swimmers. Despite the hot weather, their enthusiasm and energy level was great and really helped motivate the swimmers.
And finally, I could never have done this job without the tireless work of the CNSL Supervisory Team of Cindy Six, Kelly Rende and Sue Mangan! Big shout out to Sue for processing over 2000 meet entries!
Each summer, I think this might be my last year acting as Meet Director, but with such a great group of people helping pull everything together and making sure the meet runs well, the job is not half as much work as it could be and at times is a lot of fun!
Again thanks everyone for a great meet!
